Hospital admissions, day cases and in-patient cases

Hospital admissions are the total of in-patient and day cases.

Day cases are admissions for planned operations, treatments or examinations that can be completed within one day. In-patient admissions are the other hospital admissions and usually last more than one day.

Out-patient treatments have not been taken into account.

The figures refer to the number of hospital admissions per 10 thousand persons in the population group concerned. If a person is admitted to hospital more than once in a calendar year, all these admissions are counted separately.
