In the second quarter of 2022, a total of 1,420 people died due to COVID-19. This is almost 2 thousand fewer than in the first quarter, when the death toll stood at 3,564.

In the first quarter of 2022, a total of 3,480 people died due to COVID-19. This represents 8.1 percent of all deaths in that quarter.
Less excess mortality during second wave, but still high after 9 weeks
Although excess mortality disappeared after nine weeks during the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic, the number of deaths was still elevated after the same amount of time during the second wave.
