Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that the volume of investments in tangible fixed assets was 9.3 percent up in July 2017 relative to the same month last year. This is mainly due to higher investments in airplanes, residential property, machinery and passenger cars.

Investment data have not been adjusted for calendar effects. July 2017 has the same number of working days as July 2016. According to the CBS Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands is slightly more favourable in September than in July.

Investment climate more favourable in September

Every month, CBS publishes updates on the investment climate in the CBS Investment Radar. Circumstances relevant for investments are, on the one hand, the situation on the commodity markets, and on the other hand, the availability of financial means. Although the Radar indicators show a strong correlation with investments in fixed assets, improved circumstances are not necessarily translated into increased growth in investments.

According to the CBS Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands improved slightly in September compared to July, mainly because the growth of exports on a yearly basis was considerably more substantial. In addition, the industrial capacity utilisation rate increased. On the other hand, Dutch manufacturers were slightly less positive about their order books.
