Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that the volume of investments in tangible fixed assets grew by 3.6 percent in March 2016 relative to March 2015. The increase is less substantial than in the preceding month. The slowdown in investments in March is mainly due to the fact that, apart from investments in residential property, investments in aircraft also grew significantly in February.

Investment data are not adjusted for calendar effects. The number of working days was the same in March 2016 and as in March 2015. According to Statistics Netherlands’ Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands is slightly more positive in May than in March.

Investments in residential property up

Higher investments in residential property almost entirely accounted for the investment increase in March. Investments in cars and other modes of road transport also grew, but investments in machinery were marginally down.

Investment climate slightly more favourable in May

According to Statistics Netherlands’ Investment Radar, the investment climate in the Netherlands has improved slightly in May compared to March. The situation on the sales markets and on the financial markets is a relevant factor for the investment climate in general. The Investment Radar shows that consumer confidence improved in May relative to March.
