Social Involvement, Civic Service

During their civic service (Maatschappelijke Diensttijd), young people voluntarily do something for others or for society. This has a social impact. At the same time, they can develop their talents and meet new people. In the ‘Social Cohesion, Civic Service (Sociale Samenhang, MDT)' survey, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) takes stock of what young people think of their civic service. In addition, we examine how satisfied they are with their lives and social contacts.

Why this survey?

This survey provides information about, for example, voluntary work, social contacts, leisure activities, life satisfaction, health, and trust in politics. This information helps the government make informed decisions and policies. These may also have an impact on your life.

Why you have been selected

CBS has received data from the research firms Rebel and Kantar, provided by young people who took part in civic service and indicated that they wanted to participate in a CBS survey. We have linked these data to the data from the Personal Records Database (BRP). The BRP contains the names and addresses of all residents of the Netherlands. Your participation is very important because you represent a large number of other young people in the Netherlands.
