General Industrial Classification of Economic Activities within the European Community
Under EU Regulation 3037/90 of 9 October 1990, all Member States were obliged to bring their national classifications of economic activity into line with NACE from 1993 onwards. Version NACE Rev. 2 has been in force since 1 January 2008.
The Standard Industrial Classification 2008 (SBI 2008) used by CBS is equal to NACE Rev. 2 up to and including the class level (four digits), with a few exceptions. At the division level, indicated by two digits, SBI 2008 and NACE Rev. 2 are in line with ISIC Rev. 4, the classification of economic activities recommended by the United Nations.
