Consumer confidence hardly changes

According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the mood among Dutch consumers has hardly changed. The consumer confidence indicator stands at -1 in October, up from -2 in September. Consumers’ willingness to buy has improved slightly, while opinions on the economic climate have remained more or less the same.

At -1, the consumer confidence indicator in October stands above its long-term average over the past two decades (-4). The indicator reached an all-time high in January 2000 (36) and an all-time low in March 2013 (-41).

Willingness to buy slightly improving, opinions on economic climate more or less the same

Consumers’ willingness to buy has improved slightly in October. This component indicator stands at 1, up from -1 in September. Opinions of consumers on their financial situation over the past twelve months are slightly less negative and opinions on their financial situation in the coming twelve months are slightly more positive. They also find the time more favourable to make large purchases.

The component indicator on Economic climate hardly changed: from -3 in September to -4 in October. This is due to consumers being less positive about the economic climate in the past twelve months.
