Lower volume of goods transported by road in 2025
- Dutch trucks transported fewer goods both domestically and internationally in 2025.

Dutch trucks carried 620 million tonnes of goods in 2025, down by 3.7 percent from 2024. The volume of both domestic and international goods transported by Dutch hauliers has decreased. The transport of construction materials in particular, has declined over the past year (-8.0 percent). Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this on the basis of newly released figures.

Domestic transport by Dutch trucks totalled 510 million tonnes of goods in 2025. That was down by 3.8 percent from 2024, and the same level as it was in 2015. Dutch trucks transported 109 million tonnes internationally, 3.4 percent less than in 2024.

Sharpest decline in transport of construction materials
Dutch trucks transported a significantly lower volume of construction materials in 2025. Relative to previous year, the transport of construction materials fell by 8.0 percent to 197 million tonnes. There was a decline in the transport of timber, metals, machinery and other building materials, in particular. The transport of sand and gravel remained at a similar level to 2024.
The transport of commercial goods increased by 2.4 percent. Commercial goods are goods intended for the retail sector, and include textile products and furniture.

Own-account transport fell more sharply
Over 82 percent of the total weight transported by Dutch trucks was carried by commercial hauliers. In 2025, Dutch commercial hauliers carried a total weight of 509 million tonnes of goods, both domestically and internationally. That was a decrease of 3.4 percent. Commercial transport totalled 411 million tonnes of goods domestically and 98 million tonnes internationally.
Transport on own account refers to the transport of goods by the companies that produce them. This fell to 110 million tonnes, 5 percent less than in 2024. Own-account hauliers transported 99 million tonnes within the Netherlands and 11 million tonnes internationally.
