Registrations

The figures in this news release relate to persons registered in the Dutch Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP). Registrations include both newborns and people migrating from abroad to the Netherlands (immigration). Registration of immigrants takes place when the expected length of stay in the Netherlands in the six months from the time of settlement is at least four months. Asylum seekers are generally registered with a Dutch municipality once they obtain a residence permit and are provided housing after residing at a reception centre. Asylum seekers residing at a reception centre can be registered with a municipality after having been in the Netherlands for six months, even if they have not yet obtained a residence permit.
Deregistration takes place after a person deceases or if he or she moves abroad. In the latter case the expected stay abroad in the year following departure shall be at least eight months.
The figures for 2017 are provisional.
