More goods transported in foreign lorries

Foreign hauliers are becoming more important in Dutch road transport. From each 100 tons of goods loaded in the Netherlands, 6.4 tons were carried by foreign hauliers versus 5.5 tons in 2005.  The share of foreign carriers in international road transport increased by one fifth between 2005 and 2009. Foreign carriers had a share of 39 percent in 2009.

German hauliers account for one third

German road transporters accounted for one third of the 34 million tons of goods transported by foreign hauliers from the Netherlands. The bulk (91 percent) was carried to Germany.

Considerable growth Polish haulage contractors

In recent years, the share of Polish haulage contractors in all goods transported from the Netherlands has been growing. Their share in international road transport from the Netherlands has more than doubled between 2005 and 2009 to 5.5 percent. Polish road haulage operators carried nearly 5 million tons of goods from the Netherlands to other destinations in 2009. Unlike the Germans, who transported the major part of goods from the Netherlands to Germany, only 42 percent of goods carried by Polish haulage contractors from the Netherlands were destined for Poland.
