Bankruptcy rate remains low

Nearly 320 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) were declared bankrupt in the Netherlands in April 2008. This is nearly 60 bankruptcies more than in March this year, and nearly 10 more than in April 2007.

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.

The three-monthly moving average stood at 290 in April, almost 10 up on March this year. The number of bankruptcies remained at a low level.
