More homes completed within two years

More than 72 thousand new homes were completed in the Netherlands in 2006, over 5 thousand more than in 2005. For  71 percent of these homes, the completion time was less than two years, compared with 68 percent in 2005. In 1995, by comparison, 95 percent of new homes were completed within two years.

Just as in 2005, the completion time in 2006 was 18 months on average. In 1995 this was still only 13 months. Projects with 200 or more homes take longest to complete: 22 months. The shortest completion times are for projects consisting of just one house: 14 months on average.

Completion times improved

For all residential construction projects in 2006, the share of homes completed within two years remained the same or was slightly higher than in 2005. For projects with 10 to 20 homes, the share grew by 6 percent to 76 percent. The percentage only fell for projects with 2 to 5 homes.

Shortest completion times in Groningen

In 2006, 88 percent of new homes in the province of Groningen were completed within two years, 50 percent were completed within one year. One reason for the short completion times in Groningen is the fact that the projects are smaller there.
