More than 380 bankruptcies in January

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month also depends on the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator. In January, the indicator stood at 329 and was 20 up on December. The decrease in the number of bankruptcies is not continued. In December, the number of bankruptcies reached its lowest point in four-and-a-half years.

In 2006, more than 4,200 businesses and institutions went bankrupt. This is significantly lower than in the previous year. In 2006, the number of bankruptcies in manufacturing industry and financial services decreased considerably. In the sector hotels and restaurants, the number of bankruptcies increased.
