Car lease prices continue to rise

Vehicle lease prices in the Netherlands, i.e. prices based on operational lease contracts, excluding fuel costs, were more than a quarter higher in the fourth quarter of 2000 than in July 1990.

Lease prices fell slightly at the beginning of 1998 and then remained virtually stable until the second quarter of 1999. They subsequently rose continuously, although the increase slowed down in the third and fourth quarters of 2000.

The figures are strongly influenced by the increased lease prices for cars, which went up by about 30% between July 1990 and the end of 2000. In the same period lease prices for lorries rose by 14% and for vans by 6%.
