Arco van Strien of Statistics Netherlands has been awarded

The European Bird Census Council  held its 19th congress Bird Numbers  in Cluj, Romania on 16-21 September 2013. On the occasion of this congress, attended by some 250 participants form across Europe, Arco van Strien (Statistics Netherlands) presented a lecture on how bird censuses can be conducted and the possibilities of deriving Europe-wide trends from non-standardised data. Van Strien and his colleagues at Statistics Netherlands have developed a statistical procedure to combine results national of bird censuses to results for the whole of Europe.

At the congress, Van Strien was awarded the European Bird Census Council Award 2013 for his contribution to bird monitoring in Europe and his developments of the statistical software tool used in almost all EU member states.
