Job growth still high, but slowing down
There were 7.8 million paid jobs in the Netherlands in the fourth quarter of 2007. This is an increase by 170 thousand relative to one year previously.
No further fall in unemployment
An average 321 thousand people in the Netherlands were unemployed in the period December 2007- February 2008. This is the equivalent of 4.2 percent of the labour force.
Modest turnover growth for retail trade
In January 2008, retail trade turnover grew by 3.3 percent relative to one year previously. The increase is equally attributable to higher prices and the larger turnover volume.
Inflation rises to 2.2 percent
Dutch inflation was 2.2 percent in February. This is 0.2 of a percentage point up on January’s 2.0 percent.
Limited positive effect of leap day on Dutch economy
Once in every four calendar years a leap day is intercalated. The year 2008 is a leap year, but the extra day appears to have little effect on the economy.
