Bankruptcy rate remains low

Nearly 260 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) were declared bankrupt in the Netherlands in March 2008. This is nearly 40 bankruptcies fewer than in February this year, and over 10 fewer than in March 2007.

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.

The three-monthly moving average stood at 282 in March, 10 up on February this year. The number of bankruptcies remained at a low level.
