The Annual Report Youth Monitor 2021 Summary presents an outline of the living situation of young people in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including those in the Caribbean Netherlands. Based on a number of social themes, attention is paid to regional differences and developments. Wherever possible, aspects of the living situation under the COVID-19 pandemic are included as well.

Among the topics highlighted in the Annual Report of the Youth Monitor are: family situation, youth care, growing up in a family living on income support, education, labour, abuse of substances, and safety and well-being. To provide more insight into where the data is being used, interviews have been conducted at municipal policy departments for a number of years. This year, the interviews paid specific attention to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth care and youth in general.
New in this edition is a contribution by the Kinderrechtencollectief (Dutch NGO coalition for children’s rights) to assess whether the National Youth Monitor might facilitate monitoring the observance of children’s rights throughout the Netherlands.

The Annual Report is compiled by Statistics Netherlands in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
