The position of the Netherlands

In an increasingly globalised world, the position of the Netherlands has evolved from a historical perspective and in comparison to other countries. These developments are described in this edition of the Internationalisation Monitor. Notwithstanding many economic and geopolitical crises over the past century, the Netherlands has been able to expand its position as a trading nation. For many years, the Netherlands has consistently been a leading player in terms of international trade in goods and services.

The Internationalisation Monitor is a quarterly publication which describes trends in globalisation. It is part of the research agenda of Statistics Netherlands and is commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
