New method for job vacancies

On Wednesday 12 May 2010, Statistics Netherlands will publish a press release on job vacancies, with the outcomes of the vacancy statistics for the first quarter of 2010.

From this date the vacancy statistics will be based on a new industrial classification. A new internationally agreed classification of sectors and branches of industry was introduced recently: the Standard Industrial Classification 2008 (SIC 2008). This classification will be used for all statistics of Statistics Netherlands, and statistics will also be harmonised.

The level of publication in StatLine tables on vacancies according to SBI 2008 will be less detailed. As Statistics Netherlands realises that this may cause problems for some users, a supplementary table has been compiled to meet their requirements as much as possible.

For users with their own database, the whole time series 1997– 2009 has been converted to SIC 2008 on StatLine. The figures based on the old SIC 93 classification (for the period 1997-2009) have been moved to the StatLine archive.

The table on the vacancy rate has been temporarily stopped. The vacancy rate by economic activity is calculated from figures on vacancies and on jobs of employees. As the statistics on jobs of employees have not yet been converted to SIC 2008, the vacancy rate cannot be calculated.
