Bankruptcies down by 4 percent in June, year on year

  • 12 fewer bankruptcies in June 2026 compared to last year.

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that 302 businesses were declared bankrupt in June 2026. That was 12 fewer bankruptcies than last year, but 15 more than in May. The bankruptcy rate was lower, year on year, with 8.1 bankruptcies per hundred thousand businesses in June 2026.

Bankruptcy rate lower than in June 2025

The bankruptcy rate, the number of bankruptcies per 100 thousand businesses, was 8.1 in June. In June 2025, it stood at 8.6.

Since the start of the series in 2015, the bankruptcy rate peaked at 24.8 in March 2015. After that, it declined steadily until it reached a record low of 3.4 in August 2021. After that, the number of bankruptcies per 100 thousand businesses increased until it stabilised in the autumn of 2024. Since then, the trend has been slightly downward.

Significant increase in bankruptcy rate in transportation and storage

Most bankruptcies in June were declared in the transportation and storage sector, followed by the manufacturing sector. The number of bankruptcies per 100 thousand businesses in the transportation and storage sector was 39.2 compared with 12.1 in June 2025. The figures by sector have not been adjusted for court session days.
