Fewer overnight stays by Dutch guests, more international visitors in 2025

A total of 52.2 million guests stayed at hotels, campsites, and holiday parks in the Netherlands in 2025. That was nearly 2 percent more than in 2024. There were 22.3 million international guests, an increase of five percent. There were 29.9 million guests from the Netherlands, slightly fewer than in 2024 (-0.4 percent). Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this on the basis of new, provisional figures.

Of all types of accommodation, hotels welcomed the most guests in 2025, at 33.7 million. That was 2 percent more than in 2024. Meanwhile, campsites saw their guest numbers increase by the most, at 9 percent (5.6 million guests). Holiday parks welcomed 11.4 guests, roughly the same as the previous year.

More visitors from abroad

The number of international guests increased more than the number of guests from the Netherlands across all types of accommodation. Campsites saw the highest increase in international guests, at 10 percent. The number of campers from the Netherlands also rose, at 8 percent.

Majority of hotel guests are from Germany

For hotels and group accommodation, the differences between domestic and international visitors are more pronounced. For instance, the number of international guests staying in hotels rose by five percent, while the number of domestic guests fell by one percent. In total, 16.2 million international guests stayed at hotels, an increase of approximately 760 thousand.

Hotels saw an increase primarily in guests from the United States and the United Kingdom. However, the vast majority of hotel guests came from Germany, as in previous years.

Largest increase in Flevoland

The province of Flevoland saw the largest increase in the number of overnight stays in 2025. The number of guests in this province rose by 15 percent to 958 thousand. Flevoland, Groningen and Fryslân (Friesland) saw the largest increase in the number of international guests. Zeeland and Utrecht saw the number of guests fall, however. In Zeeland, there were both fewer domestic and international guests.

Just like in previous years, the majority of guests stayed in Noord-Holland, particularly in Amsterdam. The number of guests in Noord-Holland increased by 2 percent to 16.3 million visitors.

Amsterdam saw the largest increase of any city in the Netherlands

The number of overnight stays rose the most in Amsterdam (2 percent) of any major city in the Netherlands. Amsterdam welcomed 9.5 million guests in 2025. Rotterdam and The Hague both welcomed 1 percent more guests than in 2024.
