Organic farm conversion, certified and non-certified

Agricultural holdings in conversion to organic certification are monitored by the Skal Biocontrole foundation. This foundation determines when a holding can be certified and inspects organic holdings. The duration of the conversion process for crop plots is two years in general.

In addition, farmers can convert land without being certified, for example if they decide to make a gradual switch to organic farming. Arable farms can grow organic potatoes and decide to convert their carrot cultivation without certification, for instance. This allows them to convert plots to organic gradually. However, this type of plot conversion is subject to strict requirements. After a period of three years, Skal Biocontrole will assess the non-certified conversion to decide on certification.
