Manufacturing output prices 3 percent down in September

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports for September 2023 that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were down by an average of 3.0 percent year on year. In August, prices were 5.0 percent lower than one year previously.

Smaller year-on-year decrease in crude oil price

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In September, the average price of a barrel stood at 86.5 euros, i.e. almost 5 percent less than in the same month last year. In August 2023, a barrel of North Sea Brent oil cost 78 euros, over 19 percent less than one year previously.

Prices of petroleum derivatives were down by 3.5 percent year on year in September; they were down by 14.8 percent in August. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 17.2 percent lower than in September 2022. In August, they were down by 19.6 percent year on year.

Manufacturing output prices rose in September

Relative to August, manufacturing output prices rose by 1.4 percent in September. Prices increased by 2.0 percent on the export market and by 0.8 percent on the domestic market.
