Manufacturing output prices 7 percent down in June

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports for June 2023 that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were down by an average of 7.0 percent year on year. In May, prices were 4.9 percent lower than one year previously.

Larger decrease in crude oil price

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In June 2023, a barrel of North Sea Brent oil cost approximately 69 euros, over 37 percent less than one year previously. In May, the average price of a barrel stood at nearly 70 euros, i.e. approximately 34 percent less than in the same month last year.

Prices of petroleum derivatives were down by 35.9 percent year on year in June; they were down by 30.6 percent in May. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 17.9 percent lower than in June 2022. In May, they were down by 16.1 percent year on year.

In most manufacturing industries, however, prices in June were higher than one year previously.

Manufacturing output prices fell in June

Relative to May, manufacturing output prices fell by 0.3 percent in June. Prices increased by 0.2 percent on the export market and decreased by 1.0 percent on the domestic market.
