The sustainability criteria for solid biomass apply to installations with an input thermal capacity exceeding 20 MW. For biogas, modified criteria apply to installations above 2 MW. The new Directive entered into force on 1 July 2021. The biomass used in installations below these limits is also fully included.
As for liquid biomass, different sustainability criteria apply. Biofuels for transport (biodiesel and biopetrol) also have their own sustainability criteria.. No sustainability criteria apply to waste incineration plants.
