House price increase 19.5 percent in March

In March, owner-occupied dwellings (excluding new constructions) were on average 19.5 percent more expensive than in the same month last year. The price increase is again slightly smaller than in the previous month. This is evident from price monitoring of existing owner-occupied dwellings by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency.

Surging house prices

House prices reached a low in June 2013; they have followed an upward trend since then. In March 2022, house prices were on average 93.6 percent higher than during the low in June 2013.

Fewer transactions in March

According to The Netherlands’ Cadastre, the total number of transactions recorded over the month of March 2022 stands at 15,833. This is over 37 percent lower than one year previously. In the first quarter of this year, altogether 43,923 dwellings changed owners. This is over 34 percent less than in the same period in 2021.
