Consumer confidence improves

According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), consumer confidence has improved in June. The consumer confidence indicator stands at 0, up from -3 in May. This means that the number of optimists is equal to the number of pessimists. Opinions on the economic climate are improving in particular.

At 0, the consumer confidence indicator in June stands above its long-term average over the past two decades (-4). The indicator reached an all-time high in January 2000 (36) and an all-time low in March 2013 (-41).

More positive about economic climate, willingness to buy less negative

The component indicator on Economic climate has improved: from -2 in May to 2 in June. In June, consumers are more positive about the economic climate in the past twelve months and their outlook for the coming twelve months is less negative.

Consumers’ willingness to buy improved from -3 in May to -2 in June. Opinions on their financial situation in the past as well as coming twelve months are improving and they also find the time more favourable to make large purchases.
