Substantial fall in private sector investments

In May 2012, the volume of private sector investments in tangible fixed assets was over 8 percent down from May 2011. The decrease was somewhat larger than in April (nearly 7 percent). May was the fourth month in a row, in which private sector investments were down from one year previously. In May as well as in the preceding months, investments in the construction sector dropped dramatically.

Figures on private sector investment are not adjusted for the effects of the number of working days. April and May 2012 each had one working day less than in 2011.

According to July’s Investment Radar, the Dutch investment climate improved.
