Investment Conditions

The visualisation of Investment Conditions was developed by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) to analyse changes in Dutch investment and place them in context. Six indicators, selected on the basis of econometric research, can be used to monitor whether conditions for Dutch investment have changed in a favourable or unfavourable direction.

Investment conditions: more unfavourable

According to April’s Investment conditions, the investment climate in the Netherlands was more unfavourable than in the previous month. New data have become available for 5 indicators. Four indicators deteriorated, one indicator improved. Circumstances relevant for investments are, on the one hand, the situation on the sales markets, and on the other hand, the availability of financial means. Although the indicators show a strong correlation with investments in fixed assets, improved circumstances are not necessarily translated into a higher growth or a smaller decline of investments.

The year-on-year exports growth was larger. However, consumer confidence deteriorated and the year-on-year increase in share prices was smaller. The interbank interest rate rose. Manufacturers were more negative about their order positions. There was no new information about the industrial capacity utilization rate.
