House prices drop less rapidly

Prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings sold in June 2012 were on average 4.4 percent down on June 2011. According to the price index of existing residential property – a joint publication by Statistics Netherlands and the Land Registry Office – the drop in house prices is less substantial than in the preceding months. The index reflects price changes of existing owner-occupied dwellings in the Netherlands sold to private individuals.

Prices of existing owner-occupied dwellings sold in June 2012 were 12 percent down on August 2008, when house prices reached a record high.

The total number of house sales over the first half of 2012 approximated 59 thousand, i.e. 1 percent up from the same period last year.
