Bankruptcies rising

In November 2011, 633 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, 108 more than in October.

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days the courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-month moving average is a more reliable indicator.

The three-month moving average was 562 in November versus 519 in October. The number of bankruptcies has risen steadily in the past months, after it fluctuated around the 500 mark for over a year.

The figures published in this update have been adjusted from those published on 12 December 2011. The revision is based on new and more detailed information.
