Annually,  7 percent of pupils move down from class 3 havo to vmbo

Approximately 7 percent of pupils in class 3 havo (higher general secondary education) pupils move down to the vmbo (lower secondary general and vocational education). The proportion of class 3 vwo (pre-university) pupils moving down to havo is marginally higher: 8 percent of boys versus nearly 9 percent of girls moved down from class 3 vwo to havo. In school year 2008/’09, 6 percent of male pupils and 7 percent of female pupils attending class 4 vwo continued their school career at the lower havo level in school year 2009/’10.

Pupils moving down from class 4 and class 5 vwo are much rarer, but in class 4 havo, the proportion of class repeaters (13 percent) is higher than in other classes. The proportion of class repeaters is also higher for boys than for girls.
