Female labour participation rate nearly 60 percent

In 2008, nearly 60 percent of women participated on the labour market. After 2005, female labour participation has annually risen by 2 percentage points. At the beginning of the 21st century, female participation on the labour market slackened, when only 53 percent of women worked in paid jobs.

Male participation on the labour market also shows an upward trend, but the trend is less obvious than for women. However, the gender gap is narrowing.

The Emancipation Monitor provides additional information on women’s labour participation until 2008. The Emancipation Monitor, a collective publication by the Social and Cultural Planning Office and Statistics Netherlands is launched today.
