More money invested to combat air pollution from traffic

In 2005, households and the private sector collectively invested 410 million euro in traffic pollution control measures, an increase by nearly 30 percent relative to 2004. Most investments aimed at achieving a reduction in air pollution. In 2004, the amount invested in measures to combat air pollution was 159 million euro. In 2005, the amount had risen to 238 million euro.

The sale of diesel cars and commercial vehicles meeting the euro 4 standard played an important part in this respect. Investments in the shape of tax incentives to promote the use of soot particle filters and to make the switch to hybrid cars more appealing had a marginal impact.
