The data in this article about the volume of industrial waste is in line with the European Waste Framework Directive. This requires the EU member states to compile statistics on the generation and disposal of waste for Eurostat as per 2004. One of the demands is the use of the European List of Waste Materials (EURAL), which replaced the national lists.
