Table explanation

This table contains data on the lifecycle of dwellings and non-residential buildings, from building permits to new construction, additions to existing buildings, demolition and withdrawals. The table contains the total stock of accommodation objects, mutations in the stock, construction begun, building permits for new construction and additions, and changes in utilisation function. The data have been derived from the Base registration Addresses and Buildings (BAG). Non-residential buildings have been broken down according to their different use functions. The data are further subdivided into parts of the country, provinces, COROP areas and municipalities.

Data available from: January 2015.

Status of the figures:
All data 2015-2025 are final. All figures for 2026 are provisional.

Changes as of 4 August 2026:
Data for June 2026 are added. Data for January until May 2026 have been updated with the BAG extract of 8 July 2026.
The figures for 'building permits new construction' and 'building permits additions' have been redacted for June 2026 (and the second quarter of 2026) for objects with housing function (and the total). There is a large increase in the number of building permits as a result of grid congestion. From the 1st of July new residences will be placed on a waiting list for an energy connection. The Department of Housing has informed municipalities how to deal with this novel situation in the registration of the BAG. In practice some municipalities have deviated from these instructions which affects the quality, uniformity, and reliability of the BAG. The figures may change until the 1st of September and have therefore been temporarily redacted.
See links in section 3. to the statement by the Department of Housing.

When will new figures be published?
The new figures will be published approximately three weeks after the reporting month.

Description topics

Initial stock
The initial number at the beginning of the period.

In some cases, a change has been implemented in the BAG whereby the address data is only valid after the validity of the change, or the address data has been withdrawn after the reference date.
This change is non-adressable and is not included in the publication. The final stock differs from the initial stock plus the balance of the change, or the initial stock differs from the final stock of the previous month.
