Description topics

Chronic disorders
All respondents are asked: ꞌDo you /Does your child have one or more chronic disorders?ꞌ Chronic means (in anticipation) 6 months or longer. Next, 23 disorders and a remainder category 'other disorders' are presented and persons are asked if they had this disorder during the last 12 months. Persons are asked after 3 of these disorders if they ever suffered from it. Besides (more elaborately) is asked after diabetes. Most questions on specific chronic disorders are being asked to persons of all ages. Questions on disorders that do not occur amongst youngsters are posed to persons of 12 years or older.
Diabetes
All persons are asked: ꞌDo you / Does your child have diabetes?ꞌ If the answer is ꞌyesꞌ there will be a number of questions in order to determine if it deals with diabetes type 1 or type 2. A person is asked if he or she uses insulin and if yes, if the person started with medication within 6 months after diabetes has been diagnosed.
The percentages of persons with diabetes type 1 and with diabetes type 2 do not always add up to the total percentage of persons with diabetes. This is because respondents who answered ‘don’t know’ or ‘refused to answer’ are not included in one of the two subtypes of diabetes (as this cannot be determined), but are included in the total number of persons with diabetes. ‘Don’t know’ or ‘refuse to answer’ answers are more often given in the age group 75 years or older.
Diabetes type 1
Percentage of persons who answered ꞌyesꞌ to the question: ꞌDo you / Does your child suffer from diabetes?ꞌ And ꞌyesꞌ to the following two questions: ꞌDo you / Does your child use insulin at the moment?ꞌ and ‘Did you / your child start using insulin within 6 months after you were / your child is diagnosed with diabetes?'
Diabetes type 2
Percentage of persons who answered ꞌyesꞌ to the question: ꞌDo you / Does your child suffer from diabetes?ꞌ and who did not suffer from diabetes type 1.
