Explanation of symbols

Table explanation


In this table, the Dutch import, (re)export value and trade balance according to change of ownership are classified by the sections of the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC). The data is broken down further by continents and countries according to the Geonomenclature (GEONOM).

Data available from: January 2015.

Status of the figures:
The figures on international trade in goods are provisional for a longer period of time, as they can be adjusted on the basis of new or current source information. The provisional figures become revised provisional in the fourth quarter after a reporting year. The revised provisional figures will become definitive in the fourth quarter of the following year.

Changes as of March 5, 2026:
The provisional figures for January 2025 to March 2025 and October 2025 to December 2025 have been adjusted.

Changes as of November 26, 2025:
The figures for 2015 up and until 2023 have been corrected. The figures for 2024 and 2025 have been adjusted. For these years, the value of goods not physically imported in the Netherlands was overestimated due to a technical error. Because the import value for goods of the SITC sections 3 and 9 was overestimated by the same amount, the total import value remains unchanged. Additionally, it was possible for the annual change of the export value to be unjustly accounted for as annual change of the import value. The previous has been fixed in this version.

When will new figures be published?
New figures become available about six weeks after a reporting month.

Description topics

Change of ownership goods; import
Goods that foreign companies and persons transfer to Dutch companies and persons according to the method of change of economic ownership.
Total import value
The total value of the goods that foreign companies and persons transfer to Dutch companies and persons.
Change of ownership goods; export
Goods that Dutch companies and persons transfer to foreign companies and persons according to the method of change of economic ownership.
Total export value
The total value of the goods that Dutch companies and persons transfer to foreign companies and persons.
Re-export value
The part of the export value that consists of originally imported goods that have become the property of Dutch companies and persons, and that are re-exported (almost) unprocessed for foreign use or consumption.
Export value of Dutch product
The part of the export value that consists of goods made by Dutch companies and persons.
Change of ownership goods; balance
The trade balance according to the method of change of economic ownership.
Trade balance
The export value minus the import value.
Change of ownership goods; growth
The development of international trade in goods according to the method of change of economic ownership.
Annual change in import value
Percentage change compared to the same period a year earlier.

- After a method break, the annual changes in comparison with the previous year are missing.
