Table description
This table contains data on requests for asylum in member states of the European Union. In addition to the total number of asylum requests, the number of first asylum requests is also included. The data with respect to EU member states in this table is based on data from Eurostat and is partly different from data published in the table Asylum requests; international 1990-2009. See link section 3.
In 2019 the United Kingdom was part of the EU28, as of 1 January 2020 24:00 the UK has left the EU.
In 2021 the table will be adjusted to EU27.

Status of the figures:
The data are final, except for the year 2019. It occasionally happens that countries provide revised data. Therefore, the data in the table may be subject to change.

Figures for 2020 will be published in April 2021.
As of 1 February 2020 the United Kingdom is no longer part of the EU.
