Dataset is not available.

This table contains provisional data on the number of deaths among the population of the Netherlands.

The data can be broken down by gender and age group.

Data available from: 1971

Status of the figures:
The figures for the years 1971 to 2022 inclusive are final.
The figures for 2023 and 2024 are provisional. These figures may change with each renewal of the publication due to the fact that death registrations received later are still included. As this method is different from the method used for monthly mortality figures, minor discrepancies may occur.

Changes as of 26 April 2024:
The provisional figures of week 15 of 2024 have been added.

When will new figures be published?
Provisional figures over the preceding week are added every week. Publication is usually delayed around public holidays (e.g. Ascension Day and Boxing Day).
From May 2024, the table will be updated once every two weeks with provisional figures of the two weeks before the current week number minus one.

Description topics

Deaths
Number of deceased persons who were counted among the population of the Netherlands.

Deceased person
Person confirmed dead by an authorised medical practitioner by the signing of a death certificate.

Population
The total number of people residing in a given area.
Only persons recorded in the population register of a Dutch municipality are included in the population. In principle, every person who lives in the Netherlands for an indefinite period is included in the population register of the municipality. Persons belonging to the population of the Netherlands for whom no permanent place of residence can be designated, are included in the population register of the municipality of The Hague. The population registers do not include the persons living in the Netherlands to whom exemption rules apply with regard to inclusion in the population registers (for example diplomats and NATO military personnel) and persons without legal residence in the Netherlands.
