total number of calendar days available in the period under review.
The total sickness absence rate includes absence up to a maximum of two
years, and is exclusive of pregnancy and maternity leave.
A distinction is made between short-term, medium-term and long-term
periods of absence due to sickness. The length of the period of absence is
defined as the number of calendar days from the first day the employee is
reported sick until the day of recovery (or the last day of the period
under review, if it is a current case) and consequently does not only
refer to the number of days of absence due to sickness in the period under
review. Subsequently, the sickness absence rate is calculated only over
the number of days of absence due to sickness included in the period under
review.
Long-term absence due to sickness:
there are four categories of long-term absence due to sickness:
1st category: cases covering a period of 43-91 days
2nd category: cases covering a period of 92-182 days
3rd category: cases covering a period of 183-365 days
4th category: cases covering a period of 366-730 days.
