Description topics
- Supplied water
- Produced by water companies
- Water produced and purified by water companies in the Netherlands.
- Total produced by water companies
- Drinking water
- Total drinking water
- Actual groundwater
- Groundwater excluding dune water.
- Dune water
- Surface water, directly processed
- Infiltration water
- Surface water that is cleansed and pumped into the dunes where it forms a
reservoir and is further purified by infiltration.
Rain water is added to this reservoir. Water from this reservoir is
supplied on demand; after further purification it is used as drinking
water.
- Surface water, semi-filtrate
- This is partly purified water that cannot be used as drinking water.
- Produced by others
- 'Others' are non-water companies in the Netherlands and the balance of
imports and exports. A negative value means that more water has been
exported than imported.
- Use
- The use (including loss through leakage) is 'Total produced by water
companies' plus 'Produced by others'. Because of interprovincial supplies,
this does not add up per province.
Users are mainly households, offices and (to a limited extent) small
manufacturing companies.
