The data are based on the Health Interview Survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands. The Health Interview Survey is a continuous survey. Its population consists of Dutch residents of all ages in private households.

Data available from 2000 till 2009.

Medical specialist
Contact with specialist in 1 year
The data on contacts with medical specialists refer to contacts inside as well as outside hospitals. Contacts with specialists during hospital admission are not included, treatments in outpatient departments, first aid and X-ray departments are included. 1 year refers to the 12 months prior to the time of the survey.
% Persons with contact
Refers to the percentage of people in the population who had contacted a medical specialist at least once in the 12 months prior to the time of the survey.
Number of contacts per person
Refers to the annual number of contacts per person in the population. Failing recollection is compensated by multiplying the number of contacts in the fortnight prior to the survey by 26, hypothesising this number equals the average number of annual contacts. [26 periods of 14 days = 1 year].
Contacts per person with contact
Refers to the average number of contacts by persons in the population who had contacted a medical specialist at least once in the 12 months prior to the time of the survey.
