This report presents the newly developed method for measuring economic indicators on the circular economy, furthermore it presents the first results for the period 2001-2016.
Both internationally and nationally there is growing interest for the circular economy (CE) and its benefits for society. Data is already available to measure some aspects of the circular economy, for instance recycling rates and waste statistics. On the other hand, measurement of socio-economic issues like the value added and employment of economic activities requires more effort.
A new method has been developed that is based on already existing statistics. The starting point is the Environmental Goods and Services Sector (EGSS), which is extended by two supplementary approaches. Although the results have not yet fully been finalized, i.e. not all circular activities have yet been included, the first results for the period 2001-2016 are presented.
