Sustainable development infographic.

Statistics Netherlands measures sustainable development by using a number of themes subdivided into three groups: ‘Quality of life’, ‘Resources’ and ‘The Netherlands in the world’. Exclamation marks indicate theme areas where developments in the Netherlands are cause for concern. The themes consist of one or more indicators. Clicking on a theme reveals the indicators for that theme.

Developments in the Netherlands since 2000 are shown for each individual indicator. The development is summed up in a coloured arrow. The direction of the arrow indicates whether the trend is increasing or decreasing, and the colour indicates the effect of the indicator on sustainable development.

The position of the Netherlands compared with other European countries is also presented (green - good; yellow - neutral; red - bad).
