How the CPI is compiled

You have to deal with inflation every day. But how do you actually measure that? We do this with an index, the so-called CPI, consumer price index. This includes the price development of all goods and services purchased by Dutch consumers.

We now also do this with big data. such as transaction data from supermarkets. This contains the prices of the sold products and we then put them back in a basket and that is where the CPI comes out.
