Webinar Data Storage
On Thursday, May 15th we organized a webinar about our new service, the Data Storage. During the webinar, we delved deeper into placing and using files from the Data Storage. Two developers of currently available datasets talked about their datasets, the reason for sharing them and will talk about potential use cases for other researchers. You can watch the webinar via the link on the right of this page.
New Service: Data Storage
The Data Storage has been introduced within the CBS microdata environment. This service is designed to enable researchers to share large analytical datasets with other researchers. Like catalog files, these are offered as read-only files. An advantage for providers of files is that they no longer incur storage costs in their own project environments. The pilot phase of this service runs until May 2025, and during this period, the storage costs will be covered by ODISSEI. Depending on interest levels, this service may become permanent.
Conditions for placing Files:
- The file you wish to make available must have been created using only CBS microdata.
- If you create a file, you are responsible for answering questions related to it.
- A template for metadata can be found in the CBS microdata environment.
- Export the script used to generate the files and the metadata describing them and submit both through ODISSEI to the ODISSEI Metadata Portal and Code Repository.
If you wish to place a file, fill out the 'Data Storage Request' form within the CBS microdata environment. This form is in the Utilities folder. Place the completed form on your H-drive in a folder named 'For Data Storage Facility', then email your advisor at Microdata Services that the form has been submitted.
Conditions for Using Files:
- The requester must justify their request and explain how the file contributes to the research objectives.
- The requesting party must apply and pay for the CBS microdata topics underlying the file in requested for.
Look in the metadata folder under Utilities within the CBS-microdata environment for more information, as well as in Extern Maatwerk in the OtherData folder for already available files.
