Semiconductor sector in the Netherlands was worth €46 billion in 2025
The turnover of the Dutch semiconductor sector, or chip sector, reached 46 billion euros in 2025. That was double its size in 2019. Over the same period, the number of people employed in the sector rose from 23 thousand to 43 thousand. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on the basis of new provisional figures, for which data from Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) was supplemented with data from CBS.
Semiconductors are used to manufacture microchips, and are found in virtually every electronic device. As well as chips and chip-manufacturing equipment manufacturers, the Dutch semiconductor sector also includes firms that supply components or services to the sector. This study looks at the share of the combined turnover of those firms with respect to the Dutch semiconductor sector and the jobs provided.
Turnover has increased by an average of 14 percent per year
Turnover in the chip sector went up every year between 2019 and 2025. The total figure stood at 46 billion euros in 2025, compared to 21 billion euros in 2019 and 34 billion euros in 2022. This means that turnover grew by 24 billion euros over a six-year period, and more than doubled.
This is partly because the firms involved have grown since 2019, and partly because firms have begun to focus more strongly on semiconductors. The proportion of turnover that can be attributed to the latter rose from 46 percent in 2019 to 51 percent in 2025.
The entry of new companies into the semiconductor sector also contributed to growth, although this effect was more limited. In total, around 400 million euros of the growth in turnover that occurred between 2019 and 2025 can be attributed to new firms entering the sector.

Number of jobs also doubled between 2019 and 2025
Employment in the semiconductor sector also grew every year between 2019 and 2025. The number of people working in the semiconductor sector rose by 20 thousand, meaning that employment almost doubled. The trend in the number of jobs has therefore largely mirrored the growth in turnover.
In the case of employment, too, the increase is not only due to growth in total employment at these firms, but also a shift towards more semiconductor-related activities within firms. As a result, the number of people in jobs connected with semiconductors has continued to rise. The arrival of new firms into the sector has created around 2 thousand extra jobs.

Provisional estimates regarding the semiconductor sector
This article is based on a new, innovative method of surveying and analysing the semiconductor sector. The sector has been defined on the basis of data from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). These figures were then supplemented using data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) in order to estimate the share of activity in each firm that related to semiconductors. The method is still under development, and all the figures in this news release are provisional estimates.
