Retail turnover up by nearly 3 percent in June
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that retail turnover was 2.9 percent higher in June 2026, year on year. Sales volume was up by 2.5 percent. Turnover in the non-food sector (including retail not in shops) increased by 3.1 percent, and turnover in the food sector (shops selling food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 2.5 percent. Meanwhile, online retail turnover rose by 7.5 percent, year on year.
The figures for retail turnover have been adjusted to reflect the shopping days in June, because more is sold on certain days of the week than on other days. Without this adjustment, retail turnover in June would have been 4.3 percent higher than in June 2025.

Turnover in food sector up by 2.5 percent
Turnover in shops selling food, beverages and tobacco rose by 2.5 percent in June, year on year. Sales volume was 2.2 percent higher. Turnover in specialty shops was up by nearly 1 percent, while in supermarkets it rose by 2.7 percent.
Turnover in non-food sector up by over 3 percent
Turnover in the non-food sector was up by 3.1 percent in June, year on year. Sales volume (turnover adjusted for price changes) was up by 2.6 percent on June 2025.
Of the most important subsectors in the non-food sector, shops selling consumer electronics recorded the largest increase in turnover, at over 6 percent. Chemists saw a 4.5 percent increase in turnover. However, turnover among shops selling footwear and leather products and those selling home furnishings was lower than a year earlier.

Online turnover 7.5 percent higher
Turnover among online retailers was up by 7.5 percent in June, year on year. Online retailers (whose core activity is selling goods and services over the internet) recorded an increase in turnover of nearly 10 percent. Online turnover growth for multi-channel retailers (retailers selling goods and services over the internet as a secondary activity) was less pronounced, at nearly 6 percent.
Online turnover for all subsectors was up in June 2026, year on year. Consumer electronics retailers recorded the largest increase, at 9.0 percent.
